Abstract

This research was conducted during the author's sea training (Prala) on board the vessel MT.Pematang/P.1021 owned by the company PT. Pertamina International Shipping, for 9 months and 25 days. The data sources were obtained directly from the research site using field methods (observation) as well as library methods involving documents, instruction manuals, and books related to the thesis title. The results obtained from this research indicate an increase in temperature in the main engine cooling system caused by blockages in the main engine cooling system and a reduction in seawater pressure in the open cooling system due to a damaged sea chest valve caused by corrosion and rust due to the vessel's old age.

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan ketika penulis melaksanakan praktek laut (Prala) di atas kapal MT.Pematang/P.1021 milik perusahaan PT. Pertamina International Shipping, selama 9 Bulan 25 hari. Sumber data yang diperoleh adalah data langsung dari tempat penelitian dengan metode lapangan (observasi) dan juga metode kepustakaan berupa dokumen-dokumen, instruction manual book serta buku-buku yang berkaitan dengan judul penelitian. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa meningkatnya temperatur pada  system pendiangin mesin utama yang di sebabkan oleh adanya sumbatan pada system pendingin mesin utama dan terjadinya pengurangan tekanan air laut pada system pending terbuka akibat valve sea chast yang rusak karena korosi dan karatan akibat usia kapal yang terbiang sudah sangat tua.
